ENERGY: The “Energy University” for Efficiency-Minded Professionals

Recent Gauteng Business News

Global specialist in energy management, Schneider Electric South Africa, believes its vendor-neutral online Energy University, which provides free and easy access to practical education on energy management across the board, is highly appropriate for the local industry to assist in achieving energy efficiency savings.

According to Gys Snyman, vice president for energy efficiency at Schneider Electric South Africa, the organisation’s Free Energy University “is a highly practical and innovative means of ensuring that all future electrical engineers and electricians are aware of and trained in the energy efficiency approach to power generation, distribution and consumption”.

He adds that energy efficiency is critical to everyone’s future and that with increased competition for finite resources, the time to address energy consumption is now. “The Energy University curriculum will prepare you to meet these challenges with knowledge that you can put to work immediately,” he says.

So far, 92 percent of Energy University enrollees said they would take a course again. Training is free and is based on an online programme of product-neutral education for professionals in all industries and at all organisational levels.

How the Energy University Works

“Energy University is a Web-based, on-demand resource for gaining the tools and information needed to effect positive change in your organisation’s energy management practices. Based on the philosophy behind sound energy efficiency and conservation, the courses encompass energy consumption, applications, ROI calculations, and solutions that can be easily understood and implemented,” explains Snyman.

“Convenient courses last one hour or less. All you need is an Internet connection to take a class at whatever time works for you. As you complete courses, you can receive professional education credits, and build toward our Energy Certificate.”

Course content is relevant to critical end markets that represent 72 percent of worldwide energy consumption, including energy and infrastructure, industry, buildings, residential, data centres and networks.

“Energy is the catalyst for progress, but using it wisely is the new catalyst for business,” concludes Snyman.
