2010 WORLD CUP: Clean Sweep at Soccer City
Recent Gauteng Business News
“Cleaning up after the opening ceremony was particularly challenging,” says GEM, managing director Henk Ferreira. “There was a mountain of litter in the stadium that needed to be swept up and disposed of before the second game on the Monday and we worked non-stop round the clock right through the week-end to get ready in time.”
GEM turned to Goscor Rental for the equipment and operators and they procured three specialist cleaning products from sister company Goscor Cleaning Equipment – two sweeper/scrubbers which were capable of vacuuming, sweeping and scrubbing the concourses at the same time and a Green Machine sweeper for the surrounding areas. “Time was our greatest challenge,” says Goscor Rental operations manager Greg Venter. “We had to get everything ready quickly and then the job itself was, to say the least, fast track. We were fortunate that the concourses were sufficiently well lit to allow us to work 24 hours or we’d not have finished the job,” says Venter.
The two machines used on the concourses were an M30 Tennant sweeper/scrubber and an M20 Tennant sweeper/scrubber.
“The Tennant sweeper/scrubbers proved to be the ideal machines for the job,” says Venter. “They coped with the load and proved to be efficient, reliable and comfortable enough for drivers to operate for extended periods.
Ferreira concurs. “The Tennant sweepers and scrubbers were fully up to the job, and this task really put them through their paces. The cleanup after these big matches was massive and the relatively short time before the next match was a real test for any machine,” he concluded.
