The City of Johannesburg presented the 29th edition of the Annual Arts Alive International Festival under the theme "A Redefining and Artistic Creative Future" which takes place from the 7th of September to the 12th of December 2021.

The 29th Edition of the Joburg Arts Alive International Arts Festival 2021 Festivals ushers in the month of October with a great lineup of events that are set enthral Joburgers and audiences to in the rest of South Africa. The calendar features a delectable package of hybrid of events with some being virtual and others allowing for physical audiences with strict adherence to the COVID19 regulations.

The festival promises to unlock a stellar line-up of our arts, culture and heritage sectors bringing a great artistic fusion featuring artists from various sectors of the Creative Industries in a range of creative offerings planned to scintillate Joburg and Global audiences with a uniquely Joburg artistic flair.

This will be a kwaito legends concert featuring prominent kwaito artists and producers. The concert will comprise of a dialogue with Kwaito producers and a concert by Kwaito music artists. The key focus of the dialogue will look at where the kwaito genre is currently and where it's going and the influences the genre has had in SA music.

The 22nd of October sees a double-bill of great events lined up, featuring the streaming of Kwaito Legends Festival consisting of a panel discussion and a performance; as well as a Film Screening which will feature two Retrospective film screenings focusing on the New South Africa. The films will explore narratives that interrogate who are we, who will we be and how we keep reinventing ourselves.
