Another two top companies will join the fast-growing number of leading businesses to open their doors in prime business development, Waterfall by Atterbury as development manager.
Novartis – a world leader in healthcare - and global power group Cummins – open their new strategic South African premises in the burgeoning Waterfall mega development this month (June 2015). These two latest developments to be complete and open at Waterfall have a total development value of R285 million.
Construction is progressing apace at Waterfall as Atterbury rolls out the development of Southern Africa’s largest greenfield urban concept. Waterfall is ideally located between Midrand and Sandton, and is quickly becoming one of the strongest and most successful commercial nodes nationally. So far, commercial development at Waterfall is valued at about R4 billion.
Waterfall measures around 311ha with 1.73 million square metres of developable bulk approved so far. Set to be unmatched in size and impact, this prime development is creating a city developed around the best urban design principles. Attacq Waterfall Investment Company holds the development rights to the prestigious Waterfall, which is wholly owned by JSE-listed real estate capital growth fund Attacq.
The new Novartis South Africa headoffice at Waterfall comprises 8,300m2 of quality office space, with environmental sustainability at its heart. As a leader in healthcare, it is unsurprising that healthy workspace is a priority for Novartis and its building has been registered for a LEED Silver Rating.
Cummins’ new Southern Africa Regional Distribution Centre and Filtration Plant comprises 22,280m2 of cutting-edge space, which consolidates several of its manufacturing and warehouse plants into one efficient building. Project managed by Atterbury in Waterfall’s Commercial District, this strategically located, custom designed facility benefits Cummins and its stakeholders with greater parts availability, shorter lead times, lower end-to-end logistics costs and value-added logistics solutions.
Coenie Bezuidenhout, Director at Atterbury Property Developments responsible for developments at Waterfall, comments: “We are thrilled to see Waterfall really coming to life, with more and more businesses now open and opening, others under development, and extensive interest from companies that want to be here.”
To date, 26 leading commercial and industrial companies have chosen the Waterfall mega development as their new long term base for business success. These include Cell C, Group 5, Altech, Digistics, Massbuild, Cipla, Golder and Associates, MB Technologies, Virgin Active, Premier Foods, Dräger S.A, Westcon Group, Covidien, Honda Motor SA, PwC, Colgate Palmolive, Hilti, Stryker, Schneider Electric, Attacq and Atterbury, as well as City Lodge Hotel.
Waterfall also features an extensive variety of retail, including the iconic new 131,000m² super-regional shopping centre, Mall of Africa at Waterfall City, set to open in April 2016.
Says Bezuidenhout: “Waterfall is an unrivalled location for businesses and is proving successful in attracting leading companies that want to unlock greater operational efficiencies by consolidating under one roof or reaping the advantages of bespoke designs that support their business processes.”
Contributing to Waterfall’s appeal as a leading business address is its ideal positioning in Gauteng’s economic hub. Waterfall is closing the gap between northern Sandton and Midrand, creating a large commercial growth node. The development spans the highly visible land on both sides of the N1 highway, from the Woodmead Interchange through the bustling Buccleuch Interchange to Allandale Interchange, and enjoys superb access from Pretoria, Midrand, Sandton and Johannesburg.
