PROPERTY: Redefine Named As a Global Climate Performance Leader By CDP
Recent Gauteng Business News
Redefine Properties has been listed as a global climate performance leader by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and has been included in the 2014 Climate Performance Leadership Index (CPLI).
Redefine is one of only eight South African companies on this index in 2014. It is also the only local REIT to be included among 187 businesses from around the world which demonstrate a superior approach to climate change and have received an A-grade for their performance, as well as a position on CDP’s CPLI.
Other South African companies to make the CDP ‘A-list’ include Pick n Pay, Firstrand, Sanlam, Standard Bank, MediClinic, Anglo American Platinum and Harmony Gold.
The CDP notes that the constituents of the CPLI are “the public companies that are taking the most action to help drive the transformative action at a scale that we so urgently need. Further, these corporations are implementing strategies that benefit their bottom line.”
Andrew Konig, CEO of Redefine Properties comments: “We are pleased to be named a global climate performance leader. Redefine has a clear environmental strategy, which we first implemented about two and a half years ago, and we’ve made excellent progress with it.”
Redefine boosted its climate performance from a ‘D’ rating in its first year of submission to an “A’ rating for its second submission. It also improved its disclosure score to 90%.
He adds: “This is a significant achievement in a short time. It means big positive impacts, especially as our environmental strategy is a key business focus, and has a positive impact for our tenants. Redefine is committed to the sustainability of the environments in which we operate. We strongly believe this plays a vital role in the sustainability and performance of our business.”
