INFOTECH: Apple Losing Ground‘

Recent Gauteng Business News

Apple, it would appear, is finally starting to lose ground in the raging tablet market as players such as Samsung pry market space from the iPads – with news abounding that Apple’s latest tablet release, the 128 gigabyte fourth generation iPad, is just not selling as well as expected.

This is according to Christopher Riley, CEO of Pretoria based notebook and accessories retailer –and one of the biggest sellers of Apple iPads in South Africa.

“Sales of the new iPad are way below expectations. The new release is double the capacity of the third generation 64 gigabyte unit- but it seems the market is still happy with what the 64 Gigabyte unit can offer. This is not a perilous situation for Apple, but it does point to the fact that its iPad range is losing a bit of allure, as far as the market is concerned.

“Apple has always had the reputation of bringing out funky and ‘with it’; products, but it seems this mantle is now slowly being surrendered to Samsung – even when it comes to their Galaxy smart phones. The Galaxy 3 smartphone was a huge success and it seems the latest smart phone, the Galaxy 4, is going to be just as popular.”
