The future for advertising students is about to get a lot more exciting as McCann Johannesburg gears up to host Portfolio Night. Tickets went on sale worldwide at 12pm local time on 15 April, 2013 in all 24 participating cities. Only 150 tickets at a cost of R100 will be available in South Africa to students and thereafter the entries close. Tickets can be purchased here: http://portfolionight.com/11/johannesburg
Portfolio Night will be held simultaneously in all participating cities worldwide on May 22, 2013 and the event is designed to be a fast-paced evening full of advice, mentorship and recruitment for thousands of aspiring advertising copywriters, art directors and other young creatives.
McCann Johannesburg chief creative officer, Pierre Odendaal, is very excited to be hosting the first Southern African Portfolio Night and has some advice for students: Tickets to Portfolio Night sells out in most cities very quickly each year, and even though this will be the first time it will be held here, were expecting the same trend. Dont miss out - Portfolio Night has grown to be the biggest and best advertising portfolio review and recruitment event in 35 countries around the world! Its a career-shaping event and it only happens once a year!
Managing director at McCann Johannesburg, Karabo Denalane, is also jumping up and down about the evening. It will be an explosion of energy, enthusiasm and verve, and youngsters can expect to leave having presented their work to South Africas most talented in the biz, including a jury of creative directors, executive creative directors, and chief creative officers, he says.
Portfolio Night has been dubbed New Years Eve for the advertising industry where, on the same night around the world, in 24 cities, people get together and set their sights on a sparkling future. For the keys to unlock their future, students should apply to participate in the event:
Likened to speed dating, the evenings format is structured for students to present the best of their portfolios to executives on a one-on-one basis, in 15-minute increments. Its fun, its fast and it offers students a unique opportunity for face-time with some of our industrys best.
Another draw-card for students to participate is the competition named Portfolio Night All Stars whereby one student from every city that takes part will be voted on the night as having the best, most interesting portfolio. The winning Joburg student will be flown at no cost to them to New York in August for a week of workshops and seminars at the Art Directors Club. Its a fantastic opportunity for them to meet some big names. It also highlights McCanns commitment to helping the next generation of talent long after Portfolio Night is over, quips Odendaal.
The event will take place at McCann, 22 Westbrooke Drive, corner of Katherine Street, Sandton, Johannesburg.Denalane has one more thing to add: Portfolio Night is one of the most exciting things to happen in advertising this year. Were looking forward to this being the start of something really fantastic for our industry.
