Business: Rand-Air’s Oil-Free Compressors
Recent Gauteng Business News
Local plant-hire and equipment rental company, Rand-Air, and its global parent company, Atlas Copco, specialise in the provision of generators and compressed air. When the compressors in the power station in the town of Kriel, Mpumalanga, were out of commission recently, Rand-Air came to the rescue.
This is according to Rand-Air’s Middelburg sales consultant, Chantal Bekker. The power station has had two oil-free compressors on hire from Rand-Air for the past two months. “Amongst others, the power station needs clean, oil-free air in the areas that house its control systems. Clean compressed air is also necessary to clean ash out of the boilers,” says Chantal.
Kriel Power Station’s Jaap Horn explains further: “We have our own compressors, which we use to run the power station. However, these do require overhaul and servicing from time to time, and because we do not have any permanent back-up compressors, we rely on Rand-Air, renting equipment from them as and when required during the times our own compressors are out of service.”
The plant ran into problems trying to find spares during a recent overhaul of its compressors, hence the longer than usual period of hire from Rand-Air. “We have used Rand-Air’s products and services many times before,” continues Horn. “It is critical to the running of the plant to have air available at all times. Without a reliable source of air, we would not be able to run the plant and would have to shut down units, with consequent load shedding for the town.”
Horn has high praise for Rand-Air’s products and services. “We cannot fault Rand-Air. Their equipment and service are excellent. They have helped us many times in the past and I’m confident that we will work together many times in the future too,” he enthuses.
“We are proud to be the custodians of such a great relationship and service to Kriel power station, and will do everything possible to ensure that this remains the case in the future,” concludes Louwrens Erasmus, general manager of Rand-Air.
