MINING: An Increasingly Popular Choice for the Coal Industry

Recent Gauteng Business News

Birkenmayer, a supplier of mixing, block-making, and materials processing technologies, is gaining momentum as a leading equipment and process knowledge supplier to the South African coal industry.

“We have received an order from ArcelorMittal’s large coking plant in Pretoria for a turnkey solution for the recycling of tar sludge waste products,” says Louis Eksteen, Business Development Manager at Birkenmayer. This project involves process assessment and design by Birkenmayer’s industry professionals, the manufacturing and supply of the Eirich RV11 mixer and feeding bins, and the commissioning and implementation of the solution.

Coal Industry Delves Into Recyclable Materials

This innovative installation turns typically wasted fine coke or coal dusts and tar sludge generated by the plant, into dry, moveable and useable product to be recycled back into the coke making process every month. With this complete system; wastage is drastically reduced, which boosts overall output while recognising environmental concerns.

“The Eirich RV11 mixer will become the heart of this recycling system,” says Eksteen. “Mixing coal dusts - by nature light and aerated - with sticky and heavy tar sludge, requires that mixers are incredibly powerful and robust. Eirich mixers are proven homogenisers, and when configured for specific tasks, produce constant and reliable results with each mix.”

Coal Industry Looks to Become Proactive Over Turnkey Products

Birkenmayer also becomes involved with its clients’ businesses. “We strive to understand the deliverables our systems need to achieve and design and construct our solutions accordingly. This allows us to supply top-quality turnkey products as we know exactly how to assemble feed bins, what commissioning should achieve, and how to implement continuous production,” says Eksteen.

As part of its service, BirkenmayerÂ’s materials processing experts furthermore compile customised service level agreements that help keep production lines in the coal industry running for maximum effectiveness.
