Recent Gauteng Business News

T-Systems is the official sponsor of the 11th annual Brightest Young Minds (BYM) Summit; an annual, weeklong summit which endeavours to bring together more than a 100 of South Africa’s brightest young minds from diverse backgrounds across the country.

Held at the beginning of July 2011 at T-Systems’ head office in Midrand, Johannesburg, the summit provided a dynamic and energetic environment that will allow these selected “brightest young minds” to network, brainstorm and collaborate on new ventures and ideas.

The BYM Summit also served as an entry in the BYM programme which was established in 2000 with the vision to create a platform that showcases South Africa‘s brightest young minds’ potential and fast track their development for the benefit of the country.

This year’s students were recruited from universities across the country and as the main sponsor, T-Systems had the opportunity to engage with them throughout summit period.

Mardia van der Walt-Korsten, Managing Director at T-Systems in South Africa will also be presenting the keynote address and Dr. Andrew Hutchison, Head of Process, Quality and IT at T-Systems will facilitate a four-hour workshop under the topic of “Our connected future”.

Together with T-Systems, BMW and Sasol serve as the event’s main sponsors. Other affiliate sponsors include Dimension Data, Vodacom, Xstrata, Unilever and Pam Golding.

The sponsorship of the Brightest Young Minds summit also falls in line with ‘T-Systems’ global success to significance objectives which endeavours to build and hone the talent of a country’s youth in order to grow nations and their competencies.

T-Systems have also since 2003 been actively involved in the CIDA City Campus ICT Academy, a facility that addresses the skills shortage within the ICT industry. The ICT Academy facilitates predominately previously disadvantaged individuals (PDIs) and offers a number of internationally recognised ICT qualifications.

T-Systems’ involvement with the CIDA ICT Academy also led to the establishment of its internship programme in 2006; to date the company has enrolled almost 100 interns, following the completion of their studies at the academy. Importantly, 70% of these candidates have been employed full-time by T-Systems. The internship programme is also endorsed and supported by Isett SETA.
