CELLULAR: MTN Pleased with RICA Progress
Recent Gauteng Business News
RICA is one of government’s key crime prevention initiatives that requires all cellphone subscribers to register their SIM and data cards.
By Friday morning, MTN was still collating and reconciling the number of customers who have been cut off, but initial indications are that the numbers are not significant.
Says Eddie Moyce, MTN South Africa Customer Relationship Executive: “MTN wishes to thank its customers who heeded the call to register their SIM and data cards. Your commitment to help government to curb crime is commendable as it makes South Africa a safer place to work and live. We wish to appeal to our non-RICA’d subscribers to go to any MTN branded stores, partner outlets such as Nashua Mobile, authorised RICA agents and retail stores such as Pick and Pay, Pep Stores and Edgars to RICA so that they can reconnect with their loved ones.”
MTN has also noted that some non-RICA’d subscribers that have been disconnected might be experiencing delays in being reconnected after they have RICA’d.
“Our system cannot reconnect all the customers in one go, these subscribers are being reconnected in batches. We wish to appeal to our customers who have RICA’d but have not been connected to exercise patience,” Moyce explains.Moyce expressed MTN’s gratitude to all stakeholders who ensured that the RICA process was as seamless as possible. “MTN wishes to express its gratitude to MTN employees who worked tirelessly to ensure that as many MTN subscribers as possible get registered. We also wish to thank the government through the Department of Justice and the Department of Communications for the support they have given throughout the RICA process. MTN wishes to also thank our Network Team that ensured that our systems coped with the pressure and continued to provide quality telephony services to our subscribers,” concludes Moyce.
