EXPO: A World Of Business Opportunities on Show at SAITEX 2011

Recent Gauteng Business News

Imagine a trade show where you can find anything and everything you need to run a successful and profitable business all under one roof. A place where you can interact with hundreds of suppliers, manufacturers and agents from around the world; in your own African backyard! This is what awaits you at the Southern African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX) being held in South Africa from 17 to 19 July 2011. This three day international trade fair takes place at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg.

Tshidi Makhubu is the CEO of Alkara 205, a general trade company. She attended last year’s SAITEX expo to source various products including food, tools and hardware, construction equipment and a petroleum supplier to expand her business offering. Tshidi is one of the over 12 500 visitors who attended SAITEX 2010. “SAITEX sets a high standard of what exhibitions should deliver, and it was well organised in terms of reception and lead way,” says Tshidi. “I deal with various industries and this show was a real eye opener in terms of the many new technologies available from exhibitors in developed countries. I was particularly interested in the machinery from Italy. The show also gave me the necessary contacts to venture into international trade,” she adds.

Mahlomola Mothibi is a Project Manager for Afripotego IT and Construction, and attended SAITEX for the first time last year. “My company was testing new ground by attending the exhibition and it was well worth the visit,” says Mahlomola. “We supply building materials and equipment. SAITEX enabled us to network with people in our industry, develop partnerships and find new products,” adds Mahlomola. “I have diarised this year’s dates and we’ll see you there!”

Michael Mphuti owns Azani Construction and Projects and is impressed with what SAITEX has to offer small business owners. “I’m in the electrical construction business, and made contact with several international distributors. I was able to find exactly what I was looking for at SAITEX last year,” he says. “Business is booming! I want to source green electrical supplies such as solar panels and other energy saving devices, which are in great demand at the moment. I will definitely be going to SAITEX this year,” he adds.

“SAITEX is quite similar to a giant hyper store in its layout,” explains John Thomson, Managing Director of Exhibition Management Services (EMS), the organisers of SAITEX. “It features a vast range of products across almost every category and caters for all markets. Merchandise includes tools and machinery, stationery and office equipment; fabrics, clothing and footwear; cosmetics and toiletries, household goods and appliances, as well as plumbing and construction tools and materials, and sanitary ware,” adds John. EMS publish a full list of products available at the expo on their website a month before the show starts allowing people to plan their visit.

SAITEX takes place alongside AB7, Africa’s Big Seven Food and Beverage Trade Expo. Last year the two shows attracted 644 exhibitors from 39 countries, with products in 431 categories. Visitors came from 45 countries including Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Kenya, Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Madagascar, Mauritius, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, Swaziland, Uganda, Mozambique, Turkey, Poland, Brazil, England, Germany and Greece. Following last year’s success, SAITEX and AB7 will be twice the size this year to accommodate even more exhibitors, and attract many more visitors from around the world.

SAITEX offers a free and highly effective internet-based business matchmaking programme, providing exhibitors and visitors with pre-profiled, pre-selected and pre-scheduled matchmaking meetings for all three days of both shows. Visitors can pre-register on www.exhibitionsafrica.com, and also preview all exhibitors’ products on the same site.
