Travel: Nationwide Airlines Wiped from the Skies
Recent Gauteng Business News
Nationwide airlines has gone into final liquidation and will be wound up, said Haroon Maher, attorney for the liquidators, on Thursday.
"The company has gone into final liquidation. It means that there is no hope of Nationwide being revived," he said.
It had been hoped that a buyer for the airline would be found since it went into provisional liquidation in April.
Trade Union Solidarity said that according to a circular, the Master of the High Court would soon request the first meeting of creditors and an auction would be held later in November to sell its goods.
Spokesman Jaco Kleynhans said the majority of the airline's employees had found work, but a few less skilled workers were still struggling.
Kleynhans said that in the coming months in particular, the aviation industry would experience huge pressure due to the current economic conditions.
"The challenges now faced by the industry will place pressure on the management of the industry as a whole and everything possible must be done to ensure job security," he said. - Sapa
