EXPO: The India Show is Unveiled

The effervescent India-South Africa business partnership will turn a new leaf this month with the unveiling of The India Show in Johannesburg. The four day mega-event, initiated by the Government of India through the High Commission in South Africa and the Consulate in Johannesburg, and in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is a major drive to push trade and business ties in the African continent.

India's Commerce Minister Anand Sharma and Tata Group chief Ratan Tata will lead the government-corporate mission to target $10 billion two-way trade by 2012. The event will showcase the best of ‘Brand India’ through an high end technology exhibition and a series of high-profile business meets, food, fashion and cultural shows in Johannesburg during August 29 and September 1, 2010 .

‘The India Show’ exhibition will be inaugurated by the President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Jacob Zuma on 30th August at MTN Expo Centre, the country's largest , in the presence of Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Anand Sharma, senior ministers of South Africa and business leaders from both countries.

The exhibition, which is a major attraction of the event will feature a large exposition by leading Indian technological and engineering firms in Nasrec. Top-rung Indian companies such as Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Chemicals, Tata Consulting Engineers, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, Ion Exchange, Beri Udyog Pvt Ltd, Amravati Group, Fedders Lloyd Group, Jindal Rectifiers, VisionTek, Setco Automotive Ltd, Yuken India, PME Transformers (India) Ltd, NIIT Antilles NV, Dr Reddy’s, Jain Irrigation, Hi Tech Biosciences India Ltd, Elmex Controls Pvt. Ltd., Ranbaxy, The UB Group and others will be displaying their latest technologies and innovations at the expo.

The expo will cover automotive and auto components, biotechnology, tractor and farm implements, agro and food processing technology, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, mining, power, water, IT and telecommunications, roads and railways and retail sectors.

On the margins, the event will also set in motion the high-profile India-South Africa CEOs Forum which was revitalised during President Zuma’s recent India visit. The CEOs Forum led by Mr Ratan Tata from India and Mr Patrice Motsepe, Executive Chairman, Africa Rainbow Minerals from South Africa, will hold its first meeting on August 30 in Johannesburg. The Forum will be addressed by Mr Anand Sharma and Dr Rob Davies, Minister for Trade and Industry, Republic of South Africa.

CEOs from India attending the Forum meeting include Mr Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, Mr Onkar Kanwar, Chairman, Apollo Tyres Ltd, Mr Syamal Gupta, Advisor, Tata International Ltd, Mr TCA Ranganathan, CMD, EXIM Bank, Mr Harsh Mariwala, CMD, Marico Ltd. Mr Naresh Goyal, Chairman, Jet Airways, Mr Rana Som, CMD, NMDC Ltd, Mr Vikramjit S. Sawhney, CEO, Sun Group amongst others. Mr Hari Bhartia, President CII and Co-chairman, Jubilant Organsys Ltd and Mr Chandrajit Banerjee, Director-General, CII, will also be present.

CEOs from South Africa will include Mr Sizwe Nxasana, Chief Executive, First Rand, Mr Kluseni Dlamini, Chief Executive, Old Mutual, Mr Vivian Reddy, Executive Chairman, Edison Corporation, Ms Nolita Fakude, Executive Chairman, Sasol, Dr Judy Dlamini, Chairman, Aspen Pharmacare, Mr Ajay Gupta, CEO, SAHARA, amongst others.

‘The India Show’ will be complemented by annual ‘3rd The Doing Business with India’ conference to be held on August 31. This conference, which brings to the fore India as an attractive investment destination, will be addressed by Mr Anand Sharma and Dr Rob Davies. The thematic discussions at the conference will cover infrastructure financing, South-South Cooperation, regulatory issues, etc.

The session will be addressed by prominent business leaders like Mr Hari Sankaran, Managing Director, IL and FS, Mr Werner van Oudenhove, Head of Infrastructure Finance, Rand Merchant Bank, Mr Reg Max, Associate Director - Corporate Finance, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Mr Robert Appelbaum, Director, Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs, Mr Sanjay Kirloskar, CMD, Kirloskar Brothers Ltd, and Mr Nazir Alli, CEO, SANRAL.

India’s soft power will also be on display at the grand event. A potpourri of fashion, dance, and Indian cuisine will give South Africa a glimpse into Indian culture . ‘The Fashion Show’ will be held on August 30 to showcase Indian designs to drive business between the South African and Indian fashion and textile industries. Two of India’s most accomplished fashion designers, Manish Malhotra and Satya Paul, will present their latest collections. Indian models Freddy Daruwala, Piyush Walia and Dipti Gujral, as well as premier South African models, will walk the ramp.

The Fashion Show will also see the presence of three reigning beauty queens from India -- Manasvi Mamgai, the winner of the Pantaloons Femina Miss India (PFMI) World 2010 title, Neha Hinge, who was crowned the Pantaloons Femina Miss India International 2010, and Nicole Faria, who holds the title of Pantaloons Femina Miss India Earth 2010.

‘The India Show’ will also feature a cultural programme by Maitreyee Pahari and troupe, facilitated by ICCR, on August 29, as well as an India Food Week beginning August 29, organised in collaboration with Taj Mahal Hotel at Hotel Sandton Sun, Johannesburg.
