Wedding make-up is the finishing touch for a bride that should highlight her greatest assets on one of the most important days of her life. Michelle Fryer, a professional make-up artist, has some great tips on wedding make-up.

You have probably spent months, maybe even a year planning your perfect wedding. Thousands of dollars have been spent on flowers, dresses, the cake, catering, and the location... so why skimp on yourself?

Too often, Brides do not take the time needed to insure they look their best in photographs. Why spend all that money on a photographer if you are not prepared to do the prep work? There are so many little details, simple things really, but sometimes these small details get lost in the shuffle. Take into consideration the following when deciding on your makeup and hair for your special day.

Small but Important Details:

Time Of The Ceremony: Nighttime weddings are more formal and warrant a more sophisticated look. Daytime weddings tend to be more natural.

Interior or Exterior Photo-call: Outside lighting is strong so the makeup needs to be soft and natural. Also, again with formality, outdoor weddings tend to be less formal.

The Lighting:  Different lighting warrants different makeup. Nighttime lighting tends to show less and so a stronger makeup is needed, daylight again goes more natural. Candlelight shows more golden tones on the skin and so shimmer and gloss can be utilized to soften the face. Also for the reception, what is the lighting like?

Black or White Photography: The type of film you choose to use for your photographs will also call for a different type of makeup. Be sure to decide this ahead of time and make sure your makeup artist knows how to apply makeup for both types of film.

The Colour of your Dress: Ivory and off-white tend to make the skin look softer and so can take a more glamorous makeup. White tends to look strong and washes out most faces. It is important that the face is well blended so as to not look stark, but soft color is needed.

The Dress: The stronger the neckline, the more sophisticated the hair and makeup should be. For example, a neckline that cuts deep and is off the shoulders needs to have the hair up so that the line of the neck and shoulders is shown off. The shorter the dress, the more simple that hair and makeup should be. The more simple the dress, the more simple the hair and makeup. You are creating an entire picture... do not put on the ornate dress and heels and then wear your hair and makeup like you do when you have on jeans. Don't sell yourself short on such a memorable day.

Do not be afraid to wear a red lipstick. Remember that there are different reds for different skins.

Don’t over-do your make-up. One feature should be emphasized at a time. If you do the red lips and the super made up eyes, you will look like you have too much makeup on. Bold lips require subtle eyes and smoky eyes require a muted lip.

Unless you have facials on a regular basis, do not get one the week of before your wedding. Facials can bring impurities to the surface, and you do not want to break out the week of your wedding. Also, do not make any major changes in skincare the few weeks before, for the same reason.

It sounds crazy, but if at all possible; try not to set your wedding date during that time of the month. Not only will you feel bloated and overly emotional, but your skin will react to the hormones as well.

If you do get a breakout, do not pick. Do not do anything that can irritate or redden or enlarge the problem. Use pure Aloe Vera to treat and heal any bumps or breakouts. Aloe is a wonderful healer.

The most important part of your wedding makeup, besides waterproof mascara, is perfect looking skin. You want good foundation coverage without looking mask-like. If you don't wear foundation normally, unless you skin is absolutely perfect, it is a good idea to wear it for this day.

In 20 years that hot pink lipstick, frosted blue eye shadow and big hoop earrings will date your wedding photos. You want to look as classic as possible so that your photo memories are timeless.

Remember that you want to look like yourself. You want your husband-to-be to recognize you when you walk down the aisle. And you also want to look and feel beautiful. Pamper, priss and preen. After all, it is your day!

With over 10 years experience as a professional makeup artist and licensed Aesthetician; Michelle has earned a reputation as being one of the best in the business.
