How To Print On Shade Cloth

Recent Company News

Printing on shade cloth with shade cloth ink is now an easy exercise.  Using water based ink which is non-toxic, a 31 screen works best .  You can print as usual and even spraypaint if you like.  The old manual screenprint process works best.  Just be sure to wash the screens soon after printing.  Once the water-based shade cloth ink is set in the screen you will never get it off.

Don't be fooled by "water-based".  When the shade cloth ink is wet it's easy to work with, but when it's dry it sticks like "#@t to a blanket!    The simple process of how to print on shade cloth is to do a clear base coat leaving a good deposit and to fill the holes if you want a solid print.  For construction shade cloth you don't need to cover the holes . . in fact leaving them open can be good to reduce wind resistance and the image is usually being seen from far away so registration is not so important.

Once you've applied the clear base coat give it ten minutes of drying with a hair dryer or three depending on how much of a hurry you are in.   Normally you are doing a number of prints so if you put the first coat down on the shade cloth and have someone following you with a hair dryer then by the time you get to the last one, the first one is ready for the next coat.

You can use your finger to make sure there are no bubbles and that the coat is even or the holes are filled if that's what you are trying to do.  To do long lengths with gaps in between you can just roll up the shade cloth between prints.  Ideal equipment is long tables up to 2m wide.  Shade cloth for perimeter fencing is ideally 1.8m high which fits the table perfectly and is supplied in 50m rolls.

So if you are doing say 10 prints, up to 2m wide, then you could fit them onto a 25m table.  You can use snap-off if it works well for you.  Each printer has their unique style and tricks so you just get stuck in and go for it.  The clear base screenprint ink is forgiving and easy to work with so trial and test to perfection.  It also depends on what results you are when printing on shade cloth.  I hope that this was useful for you in your quest of how to print on shade cloth.  Enjoy!
