Introduction to Business Management 1
As we progress throughout the academic year, EasyPass will highlight some of the more important concepts from the chapters in the text book: Du Toit, GS, Erasmus, BJ & Strydom, JW. 2007. Introduction to Business Management. 7th Edition.

The next chapter that we will focus on is:

Chapter 12 – Controlling the management process

Some of the more important concepts you need to understand from this chapter are:

- the importance of control
- the control process
- and the focus of control

In this Blog, EasyPass would like to highlight – the control process.

The control process can be broken up into four steps, namely:

- setting standards
- measuring actual performance
- evaluation of deviations
- and taking corrective actions

For more information on the four steps in the control process, visit the following website,

http://strategic-business-planning.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_control_process

It is important to note the close link between planning and control.  Step 1, that of setting standards is in fact the starting point of control. If one plans poorly the control process is going to be that much more difficult. The better the plans are devised or set, for e.g. plans are measurable and have a timeframe, the easier and more effective the control process will be.
