This Easter, there’s only one place to be in Gauteng. A place where families can once again enjoy a great day out. Where there’s so much to experience they won’t know where to start.
It’s a world of entertainment right here in Joburg – at the new and radically-improved Rand Show 2010.
Over eleven action-packed days, each member of the family will find something to delight: adventure sports, animal zones, boat shows, health and beauty expos, gourmet cooking demonstrations, home decor, cultural festivals, food fairs, performing horses, circus acts. And that’s just a taste.
With the Show once again owned by Johannesburg Expo Centre in partnership with Dogan Trading (Pty) Ltd, and with new management in the driving seat, South Africa’s biggest exhibition has shrugged off its fleamarket/rock concert image which crept in over the past decade.
The Rand Show is now firmly focused on the lifestyle interests of families, offering a world of entertainment in a safe and secure environment.
What’s on offer?
The new managers of the Rand Show have pulled out all the stops to ensure a trip to the Rand Show this Easter will be a rewarding experience for every member of the family.
From 1-11 April, bring the family and be entertained by a wealth of free performances and displays, and numerous specialised mini-shows to explore, such as dedicated shows for home enthusiasts and gardeners, with several halls covering aspects of the home, both indoors and out. If it’s shopping they want, families can find great deals in the mini-shows, and can also pick up unique goods at the World Bazaar, with linens, cushions, jewellery and confectionery on offer from Egypt, Pakistan and Turkey.
And be sure to catch the Boat Show, a much-loved feature of past years which has now returned to the Rand Show Lake. From boys’ toys on the water to toys on the land: don’t miss some of the most extreme action on wheels at the Rand Show 2010’s Extreme Track. There’ll be car-drifting, flying bikes, and the Suzuki 4XFun Xperience, topped off with the Extreme Adventure Spectacular, where show-goers see daredevil aerial motorbike trapeze acts, extreme biking and the amazing stunts of SuperMoto Champion and motorcycle trial legend, Brian Capper.
For technology in smaller packages, there’s the Ster-Kinekor Playstation Gaming World, which will be right up the street of the more digitally-minded members of the family.
Kids will love the Kids Zone, sponsored by Spar, where singer Nedine Blom will be presenting her popular “Supercool” show. There’s also the “Domestos Flying Germ Show”, circus acts, a chance to meet animals from the Lory Park Zoo, and great rides in the funfair (although with many new rides being launched for the first time ever at the Show, there are sure to be as many adults standing in line as kids).
For animal lovers, the Rand Show 2010 is an equine paradise, with a four-hour horse extravaganza running each day for five days, featuring the SA Lipizzaners, a Pony Club show, and a Cowboy Spectacular with displays by the Diamond X Ranch, and featuring Country and Western singer, JJ Strydom.
Other major attractions at the Rand Show 2010 include the talent platform “I Want to be a Star”, and the GIANTS LIVE World’s Strongest Man South Africa Grand Prix, as well as a soccer festival, gardening workshops with gardening guru Tanya Visser, the daily Rand Show Parade in the main arena, and the biggest Easter Treasure Hunt your kids will ever take part in.
Tickets and times
Besides the great entertainment, possibly the best thing about coming to the Rand Show 2010 is the price. New management has slashed ticket prices to ensure a day out at the Rand Show won’t cost the earth.
At only R70 for adults, R20 for kids aged seven to 16, and free for kids up to six years old, the Rand Show 2010 is more affordable than ever before. To save even more, take advantage of the midweek special, from Tuesday to Thursday, when adults pay only R40.
From 1-11 April, gates will open each day at 10am and close at 6pm, although all exhibits remain open until 8pm.
