Retail: Cape Quarter Gets Surf Cred
Recent Gauteng Business News
The Cape Quarter shopping mall in the revitalized De Waterkant area of the city will be getting some proper surf cred in the form of a new surf shop. The new lifestyle shopping centre on Somerset Road in
Green Point features an alfresco theme, with water features, a stage
area, trees and
wrought-iron finishes, leading to an upmarket hub of culture and
shopping.
Owner of the Kommetjie Surf Shop, lifetime surfer and Kommetjie local Rod Torr has decided to open a second shop in the shopping centre, serving the needs of central Cape Town.
Torr opened his original surf shop at his local break after returning from a four year working, sailing and surfing trip around the world. Torr dedicated an entire year of his trip to seeking out the best breaks in Central America.
Together with a lifetime of surfing, including legendary Atlantic Seaboard breaks like the fearsome Dungeons and Sunset, Torr brings real credibility to his shop that will appeal to hard core surfers and weekend warriors alike.
His new shop, called Liquid Soul, is conveniently located for City Bowl surfers and surf brand fashionistas. Torr stocked his shop with clothing from all the big name surfwear brands like, O'Neill, Rip Curl, Billabong, Element and the edgier funky creative brands like Insight from Australia and the newly launched in South Africa RVCA.
The shop also carries essentials like wax, leashes, shades and flops, and even boards and wetsuits. There’s a selection of skate gear too for those that prefer pavement to water.
Torr is available at the shop on most days to provide real world hard won advice on choosing gear, or to just swap stories on local spots and conditions.
