South African National Parks has renewed and expanded its contract with Vuswa Fleet Services, a joint venture between Avis Fleet Services and black-empowered Bohlabela Wheels, to manage its logistical and commercial support fleet throughout its national parks.
The original contract between Vuswa and the Kruger National Park signed in 2002, involved some 220 vehicles, ranging from passenger and light commercial to heavy commercial and yellow metal equipment, worth around R20 million. The expanded contract, which has been renewed for five years, includes the supply of an additional 200 vehicles valued at R50 million, which will be used in all of SANParks’ national parks.
Speaking from Skukuza at a ceremony commemorating the delivery of the first of the new vehicles, Avis Fleet Services managing director Laurence Savage said that the company was proud of its long and productive relationship with the Kruger National Park and looked forward to extending this partnership to all of the national parks.
“The outsourcing of non-core management functions is a major trend worldwide. It frees management to focus on the real issues in the business and lets professionals get on with the cost-effective running of peripheral activities. Having already outsourced its fleet requirements to us at the Kruger National Park, SANParks has seen the benefits of the value we can offer and we are delighted to be working with them and contributing to efficiencies and cost curtailment within their fleet.”
