National Bank’s (FNB) internet
service provider, FNB Connect, have announced that South African learners will be able to access the social media websites, Facebook and Twitter for free between 7pm and 11pm seven days a week provided they do it via visiting specific educational websites. An interesting idea, as anyone who has dealt with a teenager will know, telling them not to do something will all but guarantee that they will try, so allowing them to visit websites they want whilst learning something on the way seems to be a step in the right direction.
FNB
Connect Surf data users will, with immediate
effect, be able to access www.learn.co.za
as well as all local university websites for FREE, between 7pm and 11pm
seven
days a week without incurring data costs.
“FNB views
the role education plays in
our society as critical and with many young South Africans preparing
for matric
exams and focusing on higher education, we believe that this offering
will
further empower learners with critical information” said Zanele
Hadebe, Marketing Head for FNB Connect.
FNB
clients can register for a FNB Connect
data surf account for just R 69.00 and get 1GB of preloaded data
allowing them
to access not only the world’s two biggest social networking sites
(Facebook and Twitter for free between 7-11pm seven a days a week) but
more
importantly be able to use the internet for revision and study purposes
without
touching the 1GB data bundle.
“We are
constantly trying to find
innovative and relevant ways in which to help our clients and we
believe that
this initiative will contribute in assisting learners in their
endeavours over
the coming exam period,” concluded Hadebe.
