Business: R23m Dust Extraction Contract Awarded to MikroPul

Recent Gauteng Business News

The latest contract, worth R23m, is for design, manufacture and commissioning of dust extraction systems on the primary, secondary and tertiary crushing plants and the screening plant of the new open-pit mine.

The contract was awarded in early-February this year by Hatch Africa, the EPCM managing consultants for the crushing plant and stockyard area, and is scheduled for completion in November.

It closely followed the award to MikroPul in January this year of a contract to provide customised dust extraction and suppression systems to serve the Sishen South crushing plant’s rapid loadout station. This contract, due for completion in August, was awarded by a subcontractor to Hatch Africa on the project – consulting engineers LSL Consulting, which designed the loadout station.

MikroPul’s successful execution of a large dust extraction and suppression systems contract on the Sishen Expansion Project (SEP) crushing plant played a decisive role in it being selected to supply the systems for the Sishen South plants, where practically identical dust extraction and suppression equipment as at SEP are being employed.

The environmental systems for the latest Sishen South contract will comprise high-energy Venturi scrubbers for dust extraction on the crushing and screening plants. The four customised scrubbers, all designed to maintain emissions at under 30 mg/Nm3 in accordance with the applicable environmental regulations, will achieve extraction volumes totalling in excess of 100 m3/sec.

MikroPul is part of the South African black empowered group Alstom Electrical Industries (Pty) Ltd (Alstom South Africa). The current rating in terms of the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Act of 2003 and the Department of Trade and Industry’s Codes of Good Practice is Level 5, local value adding supplier.

Black empowerment investors include Tiso (9.5%), Kagiso (9.5%), individuals, management and employees (9%).
