Absa's BASE24® system processes transactions from 48,000 POS devices and nearly 7,000 ATMs - managing more than 836 million transactions in 2008. To date, Absa has successfully migrated issuer processing for around half of its card base onto BASE24-eps, and plans to roll out acquirer functionality in a later phase. With the implementation of BASE24-eps, the number of modifications required was significantly reduced making the system easier to manage and maintain.
Tertius Haak, General Manager – Service Delivery at Absa said, “Absa believes that the right investments in technology can deliver real benefits to the bank and, in turn, our customers and shareholders. Having used BASE24 for many years, it was an easy decision for us to migrate to BASE24-eps, which has a more modern architecture. With guidance from ACI, our team was able to learn the languages and structure, and carried out the migration project with ease. The flexibility of the scripting engine has already been demonstrated in this project.”
Louis Blatt, chief product officer at ACI Worldwide said, “Absa is a very innovative bank that invests in the right systems to enable it to respond to changing market and customer demands. The bank has been a customer of ACI since 1995, and we are delighted that we have helped with a smooth transition from BASE24 to BASE24-eps. The agility of the new product will enable the bank to roll out new payment channels and products more quickly and effectively.”
BASE24-eps builds on the availability, scalability and reliability of BASE24. It provides added agility using open systems technology to deliver an enterprise service for all retail banking payments. It is a multi-platform solution that can acquire transactions across many different channels, manage electronic payment devices, and perform high-volume switching, routing and authorization services.
