Solidarity and other trade unions in Eskom are demanding a wage increase of 14%. “Solidarity again called on Eskom not to alienate its employees with critical skills by offering poor salaries,” Solidarity spokesperson Jaco Kleynhans explained. “Although the company has committed itself to active skills retention by means of improved salaries and also indicated in its previous annual report that it would establish itself as an employer of choice by reviewing remuneration principles for competitive salaries and benefits, very little of this is evident in the negotiation sessions.”
The negotiations will continue on 24 June. If, however, negotiations still end in failure after the following session, a dispute will be declared.
