Business: Solidarity Welcomes Provisional Liquidation Of Pamdozi Mines
Recent Gauteng Business News
The trade union Solidarity today welcomed the provisional liquidation of Pamodzi’s mines in the Free State and on the East Rand, which have already been placed under judicial management. This follows after Pamodzi’s operations in Orkney had already been place under provisional liquidation.
“The uncertainty has simply become too much for the employees. There has been no plan on the mine management’s part for the future of Pamodzi. The liquidators can now at least try and salvage something. With the necessary capital and correct management, the mine’s assets can be placed back on the road to success,” said Jaco Kleynhans, spokesperson of Solidarity.
“The employees in Welkom received only 70% of their salaries in February and have not been paid at all for March. In Springs, employees received only 50% of their March salaries. Pamodzi has completely neglected its most valuable asset, namely its workers, and the situation has become unbearable. Nevertheless, Solidarity will assist its members during this difficult time,” Kleynhans added.
