Property: REMAX Commercial City Joins WWF Earth Hour Campaign

REMAX COMMERCIAL CITY this week announced its involvement as a supporter of the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) global Earth Hour 2009 campaign.

It hopes to assist the WWF in reaching 1 million South African households by mobilizing its 200 offices and 2000 agents across the country.
“Through our network, we can encourage families to sign up at the Earth Hour section on the RE/MAX corporate website (www.remax.co.za), and then show support by switching lights off in their homes on March 28 at 20h30 for an hour, as a sign of solidarity in the fight against climate change,” says Graham Alexander .

The group will also commit its marketing and communications infrastructures during March to raise awareness for Earth Hour 2009.

Well-known personalities such as the Parlotones, Freshlyground, Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu, eTV weather anchor Derek van Dam, Jo-Ann Strauss, Marc Lottering, Soli Philander, Ryk Neethling, Valli Moosa and Moroka Swallows are some of the personalities who are featured in the advertising campaign.

“WWF conserves the largest tropical rain forests, the most diverse coral reefs, and the most endangered species of the world. We are pleased to offer our support and backing for Earth Hour 2009.”

Earth Hour 2009 forms part of a global mass action on climate change, and the WWF aims to secure the participation of 1 billion citizens. These names will be presented to the United Nations Climate Changes conference in Copenhagen at the end of the year. The goal of the Copenhagen meeting is to agree on a new global climate deal to replace the Kyoto Protocol which expires in 2012. Earth Hour is a show of support for action on climate change and more specifically for a fair, effective and science-based global deal to be negotiated by world leaders at this conference.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when more than 2.2 million families and businesses turned off their lights. One year later, Earth Hour reached 370 cities and towns in more than 35 countries across 18 time zones.

Last year, an estimated 50 million people around the world switched off their lights for Earth Hour, and global landmarks including the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, Rome’s Colosseum, the Coke billboard in Times Square in New York and Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai darkened for one hour.
