Metrofile on track to expand capacity by 25%
- Investments made and growth on track to meet growing customer demands
Metrofile, Southern Africa’s leader in on and off-site information and records management, is more than 50% through its planned capacity building at an investment of R29.5million.
Little over a year ago the company made a commitment to customers and shareholders that in order to meet growing customer demands and to take advantage of business opportunities that it would need to increase its existing capacity by 25%. Metrofile immediately embarked on the project to upgrade equipment, as well as to expand existing facilities.
“We are six months into the project and have already completed more than 50% of our plans,” says Graham Wackrill, CEO at Metrofile. “Despite regular predictions of a move towards a paper–less society, it is clear that volumes are growing along with the storage needs of businesses and organisations. Meeting these demands meant that we needed to put the technology and facilities in place.”
Factors driving expansion of the business includes more stringent reporting and global corporate governance requirements, as well as regulations that demand records are retained for auditing purposes. New and updated Acts, such as the Personal Protection of Information Act and the Companies Act, will drive future demand as will good governance measures being proposed by King lll. Increasing demand for greater transparency and the shift in focus towards the management of risk will further increase the need for effective information and records management.
Since making the announcement the capacity of the Cape Town and Durban warehouses has been expanded, and additional facilities have been both built and acquired in Johannesburg. Further capacity is still to be developed in Johannesburg, and additional space is currently being sought in both Bloemfontein and Pretoria.
“The bulk of the financial investment has been made with the next six months being devoted to the completion of the work, finalising of the improvements and the rolling out the services to clients,” states Wackrill. “Metrofile has always been committed to being the best at what we do, and that means having the capacity to meet our customers growing demands, we can’t do that if we don’t stay ahead of the curve and create the standard for on and off-site information and records management.”
