Business: First Buy-Environmental Trad Show and Conference
Recent Gauteng Business News
The Environmental goods and services (EGS) industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, due to the global problem of climate change which is putting pressure on businesses and service providers across all sectors to make their offerings more environmentally friendly. As a direct result of this growth many jobs can be created in the sector if trade in EGS is promoted locally. According to Marba Visagie of the Department of Trade and Industry “the EGS sector in South Africa has the potential to make a significant contribution to the national economic objectives”. Besides creating jobs, “the sector can enhance service delivery by municipalities, help industry comply with ever expanding environmental regulation, and help companies produce reduced environmental impact products and materials”, says Gordon Brown of alive2green cc.
The Environmental Goods and Services Forum (EGSF) was created to unite EGS providers under one body. This forum provides a platform for the sector to lobby government, and for government to engage the sector. The principal objective of the EGSF is to create appropriate structures and networks and to take action that will increase business opportunities, trade, skills, knowledge and jobs in the South African environmental sector.
For this reason, the EGSF will be hosting the first Buy-Environmental Trade Show and Conference on 9 and 10 June 2009 at Vodaworld, Midrand, bringing together the public and private sector to learn from internationally renowned speakers and case studies on how substitution, intervention and mitigation can protect the environment and create competitive advantage in the new green economy. The trade show will give service providers the opportunity to showcase their offerings to delegates attending the conference and/or the trade show.
