CSI: The MediaShop Sustained Three Charities During 2011

Recent Gauteng Business News

Amid the frantic panic that accompanied the last few working days of December, several staff at The MediaShop took a few hours out of their hectic schedules to spend time with the children and caregivers of Bophelo Home Based Care. Throughout 2011, the team also supported the Zisize and Masizakhe facilities.

“Working closely with the Starfish Greathearts Foundation, The MediaShop as a group has committed time, money, clothing and toys to Bophelo based in Meadowlands Soweto, Zisize based in KwaZulu-Natal and Masizakhe which is a densely populated township just outside of Port Elizabeth,” says Group MD Chris Botha.

The MediaShop Deliver Gifts to Bophelo Home Based Care

“Just before we went off on our respective holidays, team members from our Sandton office delivered gifts to Bophelo Home Based Care which is a community based programme encouraging women to play an active role in combating HIV/AIDS,” says Chris. “The project originated as a facility looking after the elderly but with assistance from corporate sponsors has started a programme caring for children who are orphaned and vulnerable. The caregivers at Bophelo are incredible women and we’re glad we could assist in even a small way.”

Zisize, also supported by The MediaShop last year, was created in 1999 in response to the growing number of children left orphaned and vulnerable by HIV /AIDS. Zisize strives to help children through a range of activities including early childhood development, literacy and library training for educators, the provision of feeding programmes and school uniforms, psychosocial support and a foster care programme. HIV education, voluntary testing and counselling for educators, learners and community members also fall into their areas of expertise.

The MediaShop Continues to Give Back to the Community

The MediaShop’s third charity Masizakhe, opened in 1993 and works hand in hand with the community and the local churches through volunteers to affect positive home based care and counselling. This project by The MediaShop has evolved and developed over the years and is now based in a house donated by the local municipality.
