LAW: Consumer Protection Act – Court Gives Minister Until 27 Jan
Recent Gauteng Business News
Consumer Protection Act Court Application
This comes after AfriForum last year brought a court application against a notice which exempted so-called low- and medium-capacity municipalities from the Consumer Protection Act indefinitely.
A report released by the National Treasury last week, revealed once again that more than 40% of the country’s 283 municipalities are dysfunctional. In a further development, 10 000 city council members of the ANC demanded that their property be insured against damage caused during service delivery protests.
Consumer Protection Act for Municipalities
AfriForum’s legal representative, Willie Spies, said the fact that the government shields municipalities against the country’s laws causes communities to rise up. “AfriForum wants municipalities to be subjected to the strict requirements of the Consumer Protection Act just like other businesses,” he added.
