PROPERTY: Kgodisa Training Academy Launched

Recent Gauteng Business News

Aspiring and new entrants to the property industry are set to benefit from the launch of the new Kgodisa Training Academy, which from January 2012 will be the first to provide SETA-accredited training for the new Facilities and Property Management diploma, which is an NQF level 4 qualification.

Based in Sandton, Johannesburg, Kgodisa is an independent company, which forms part of Excellerate Property Services – a holding company of which JHI Properties and Sterikleen are members.

Comments Thea Bezuidenhout, Director of Kgodisa and executive: support services for JHI Properties: “In addition to furthering the professionalisation of the property industry and enabling valuable skills transference, once obtained this new qualification will enable applicants to enter the property industry as a portfolio manager or facilities manager. For those already in the industry it will enable them to enhance their skills and further broaden their careers, while enhancing and adding value to the services offered by the property management sector.

Kgodisa Training Academy Courses

“The training will comprise various courses with NQF credits linked to each – which are rated by the SA Quality Association (SAQA), and once the required number of credits is obtained the diploma in Facilities and Property Management will be granted. The training courses include, among others: Soft skill training (Conflict Management, Negotiation Skills), People Management and Asset Management, as well as ILearn courses, and will be conducted both on-line and in the lecture room,” she says.

The Future of the Kgodisa Training Academy

Bezuidenhout says as the new Facilities and Property Management diploma is at NQF4 level, applicants need to have a matriculation certificate. Currently the SAQA is in the process of developing an NQF5 qualification for the diploma. “This additional, higher level qualification will facilitate the further development of individuals who will benefit on a personal basis, and will also be advantageous to promoting human resources development in the private or public sector,” she says.

“While initially the diploma is being offered in Gauteng, in due course it will be extended to include Cape Town and Durban. As we move forward we will also be extending the scope of courses offered and with the required SETA accreditation. Another key benefit for companies is that as Kgodisa Training Academy has SETA accreditation for the courses it will offer, businesses will be able to utilise their skills training information for BEE ratings. In addition to the existing SETA accreditation, Kgodisa Training Academy has applied for accreditation from the Department of Education,” she adds.
