PROPERTY: Parkmore the Perfect ‘Convenience ZoneÂ’

Recent Gauteng Business News

Parkmore, the residential area to the west of the Sandton CBD, is enjoying substantial rejuvenation thanks to an influx of younger buyers,

“This area offers both convenience and excellent value for money,” says Brian Robertson, area specialist for Chas Everitt International, “and there is a growing change in its demographic profile, as younger couples and families buy into the area, renovate their homes and lift both the appearance of the suburb and home values.

“So far this year, there have been 33 confirmed property sales in the area, at an average price of R2,17m, which compares very well with a total of 55 sales last year at an average price of R2,02m.”

The properties being bought, he says, are generally three-bedroom family homes that have not had much renovation in recent years, and the new owners are bringing a fresh perspective by modernising them and creating open-plan, bright, fun living spaces.

The Convenience of Parkmore

Parkmore is of course very well situated, Robertson says, as it is within easy reach of almost every preferred destination in Sandton and Johannesburg. “However, what buyers here really like is the fact that they don’t have to travel far at all to access excellent schools, a variety of upmarket shopping malls and top-notch sports facilities and medical centres.”

The suburb has its own high-reputation Montrose primary school, and pre-primary facilities include the Parkmore and Stepping Stones pre-primary schools as well as a number of toddler day-care and after-care homes to assist working mothers. Other schools a short drive away are St Stithians Boys and Girls College, Bryanston High, Sandringham High, Hyde Park, St DavidÂ’s and Grayston Prep.

“There are local shops and restaurants along 11th Street and in Parkmore Mews, a new Pick ‘n Pay on Nicol Street and the Benmore shopping centre to meet most everyday shopping needs. And for a “Dubai” shopping experience, Parkmore is very close to Sandton City, which is currently undergoing expansion once again,” he notes.

Medical Practices on the Doorstep of Parkmore

The Morningside and Sandton Clinics are both close at hand for emergencies, and there are several medical practices in along 10th and 11th streets that are convenient for family medical needs.

“Meanwhile, for those who love sports, George Lea Park along Sandton Drive hosts the Sandton Sports Club, which offers cricket, senior and junior football and volleyball clubs, as well as an indoor pool and a sports pub. And for those who prefer less-strenuous activity, the Field and Study Park with its indigenous flora and open fields is the perfect place to walk the dog.”

In short, Robertson says, to live in Parkmore is to live in a “convenience node” and what is also important to buyers is that its character seems set to remain essentially suburban, despite its proximity to the Sandton CBD”.
