APPOINTMENT: DHL Appoints New MD for Sub-Saharan Africa

He succeeds Phil Couchman, who held the position for the past three years and who has been appointed Managing Director, DHL UK and Ireland.
Brewer, who has an impressive career of 27 years with the company, brings a wealth of experience to his new position.
He has held a variety of leadership roles across different functions and geographies within DHL Express, including Commercial and General Management positions within DHL Express USA and Management positions in Asia Pacific and the UK.
His enviable track record derives from a tight focus on business performance, organizational change programmes and above all else a focus on both the customer and employees. “If you get the right people, motivated to do the right things, they will invariably provide a differentiated service to the customer; customer loyalty is key,” says Brewer.
Brewer says, “The Sub-Saharan Africa market is a growth market for us and I am looking forward to expanding our presence in the market and developing our customer base.”
DHL, as the market leader in Africa, has made significant investments over the past ten years in Sub-Saharan Africa. In the 49 Sub-Saharan African countries the company employs 3 500 people, has 280 service centres, 1 250 vehicles, 17 aircraft, 25 airside facilities and five distribution hubs. Brewer says “DHL has a very solid position and has developed an industry unique position, with a dedicated air network and unparalleled infra-structure, but rest assured we will be looking to drive service quality, employee engagement and customer loyalty further still”.
