TELECOMMUNICATION: MTN Business and SAB Brew a New Relationship

Recent Gauteng Business News

MTN Business has been awarded the tender to supply a combination of fibre and connectivity services to The South African Breweries Limited (SAB) – South Africa’s leading producer and distributor of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and one of the nation’s largest manufacturing firms.

The contract, which comes into effect on December 1st, 2010, will see MTN Business providing local and wide area network connectivity, high speed connection between data centres and disaster recovery sites as well as IP telephony and security services to SAB.

Says Angela Gahagan, Managing Executive at MTN Business; “Access to secure fibre networks in key metropolitan areas across South Africa, will allow SAB access to high speed and agile Internet Connectivity as well as access to our Virtual Private Network (VPN) for enhanced service delivery, reliability and customer experience.”

According to Johan Swartz, CIO of SAB, a tender was issued to the broader ISP market and at the end of this process, a business case was produced which was used to make a decision on who should be awarded the contract. MTN Business was chosen as the preferred partner. “Due to the nature of our business and the crucial role that our telecommunication solutions play in maintaining our high level of customer service and satisfaction across our branches, we selected a communication partner that will enable us to look beyond our short term needs and requirements.”

Founded in 1895, SAB is the South African subsidiary and historical birthplace of SABMiller plc, one of the world’s largest brewers by volume with more than 200 brands and brewing interests and distribution agreements in 75 countries across six continents. Locally, SAB operates seven breweries and 40 depots in South Africa with an annual brewing capacity of 3.1 billion litres. The company also employs nearly 9,400 people.

“It is crucial that we implement the best quality infrastructure across our depots and branches,” continues Johan Swartz. “Down-time is not an option and by partnering with MTN Business we are assured of network uptime and service levels of a scalable and secure world class infrastructure provider. Knowing that our networking is taken care of, we can focus on our core business and continue to track, measure and improve our customer experiences.”

Concludes Gahagan; “This new relationship between MTN Business and SAB once again shows that we are delivering against our vision to be a premier 360 degree communications partner for enterprise business customers. We are thrilled to be working with SAB and look forward to a strong, successful relationship.”
