Recent Gauteng Business News

Reflecting its commitment to keeping the African supply chain community abreast of cutting edge, world-class trends and thinking, SAPICS (The Association for Operations Management of Southern Africa) is proud to announce that renowned international business improvement specialist Oliver Wight, with whom SAPICS has had a long association, is bringing its outstanding education offerings to South Africa.

SAPICS director Ken Titmuss elaborates: "The Oliver Wight organisation has been greatly respected for its business improvement programmes across the world for many decades, not least in the manufacturing sector. From Oliver Wight's first one-page check sheet for manufacturing planning and control systems excellence, to the current sixth edition "Class A Checklist for Business Excellence", they have lead the way in assessing their clients' ability to implement excellent enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, in line with excellent business processes and behaviours.

"Oliver Wight offers a number of high-level business planning courses, and these will now be run in South Africa. These courses cover the important areas of Demand Management, Sales and Operations Planning and Master Production Scheduling. These are areas that are typically not well executed in many of our manufacturing businesses," Ken notes.

Oliver Wight's association with SAPICS goes back many years, with the organisation having been a sponsor of the SAPICS annual and regional conferences. "We have also had exceptional speakers from Oliver Wight at our conferences over the years,” Ken adds. “Our two organisations share many synergies, and we at SAPICS are delighted to be deepening our association with Oliver Wight, and are confident that their courses are going to be very well received by the South African business community."

In the last three years, Oliver Wight EAME (Europe, Africa and Middle East) has experienced a ten-fold increase in its business in South Africa and it is now working with more than 30 organisations based here, says Oliver Wight Partner, Lloyd Snowden. “It has become clear, not least from our work with SAPICS, that there is growing recognition among organisations in South Africa of what they can do to compete more effectively on the global stage; they are keen to take the right steps and the Oliver Wight offering is of great interest to them.”

Oliver Wight has a 40-year track record of delivering business improvement to some of the world’s best-known organisations. With a team of professionals offering a wealth of experience, Oliver Wight is the largest consultancy of its type, with offices throughout Europe, South Africa, North and South America, and the Asia Pacific region. "We believe that sustainable business improvement can’t be delivered by external consultants but only by our clients’ own people; so unlike other consultancy firms, we transfer our knowledge to them, helping deliver performance levels and financial results that last," Lloyd explains. "Our Integrated Business Planning (IBP) model lies at the heart of our clients’ journey to outstanding business performance. Oliver Wight are originators of sales and operations planning (S and OP) and IBP can most simply be described as advanced S and OP. However, unlike S and OP, IBP brings a truly strategic perspective, integrating diverse processes - in the extended supply chain, product and customer portfolios, customer demand and strategic planning - into one seamless management process."

Les Brookes, CEO of Oliver Wight EAME says, “We are very excited about the work we are doing with our clients in South Africa and have introduced these courses to help other South African organisations see the sorts of benefits Oliver Wight clients have already received.”

This month will see Oliver Wight hosting an Integrated Business Planning (IBP) course in Johannesburg (26 and 27 October), while Oliver Wight partner Lloyd Snowden is also on the speaker line-up for the SAPICS regional conferences, which take place in Durban on 28 October and in Cape Town on 5 November.
