These awards recognise and celebrate retailers and service providers who have delivered exceptional levels of service, thereby adding significant value to South Africa’s shopping centre industry.
Also announced at the event held in Kyalami were the winners of the coveted SACSC Footprint Marketing Awards for Gauteng.
Winners of these regional awards will proceed as finalists in the Spectrum Awards 2010 to be held at Summerplace in November, which recognise the National Retailer of the Year and National Service Provider of the Year.
The SACSC Spectrum Awards pay tribute to exceptional innovation, creativity and vision across all disciplines and sectors in the South African retail industry. In essence, the awards honour the best South African shopping centres and their retailers.

Not only is this raising the bar, but it is stimulating competition that will no doubt further propel the standing of the retail sector and its commitment to excellent customer service and offering.” says Amanda Stops, General Manager of the SACSC.
Competing with other excellent national and local retailers in Gauteng - including the likes of Virgin Active (Brightwater Commons), Carol Boyes (Sandton City), and Taggs (Sandton City) - it was the combined appeal and excellence of Fruit and Veg City Food Lovers Market’s that earned its winning accolade.
Tashas at Morningside Shopping Centre triumphed in the Restaurant, Coffee Shop and Bistro category. Other excellent nominees included Trana Indian Restaurant (Hazeldean Square), Pappas on the Square (Nelson Mandela Square), Piatto Mediterranean Kitchen (The Square Farrarmere), Turn a Tender (Thrupps Illovo Centre) and Signature (Morningside Shopping Centre).
Adding a lift to food-on-the-go, Boost at Kolonnade Shopping Centre was named as winner in the Fast Food category, with nominees KFC (Hazeldean Square), Subway (Village Walk Shopping Centre), Wimpy (Irene Village Mall and Moraleta Square respectively) and Maxis (Centurion Lifestyle Centre) worthy fellow contenders.
Leading the Service Category for provision of security services, Magnum Shield (Melrose Arch) was announced as winner, with other nominees including Fidelity Security (Alberton City Shopping Centre, Lakeside Shopping Centre and Sandton City) and Dotcom Security (Carlswald Lifestyle Centre). Magnum Shield’s accolades in this regional round of awards were extended further with the security company also taking top honours as the Overall Service Provider.
Service providers’ vital role in supporting a pristine retail environment was recognised with two separate awards for Cleaning and Landscaping awarded to Naledzi Cleaning Service (Eastgate Mall) and Life Landscapes (Irene Village Mall) respectively. Other outstanding nominees in the two categories included Gem Cleaning (Heathway Square), Recycling Solutions (Mall@Reds), Lami Hygiene (Sandton City), Berco Cleaning (Irene Village Mall) and Top Turf (Kolonnade Shopping Centre).
Parking service provider, Easipark (Morningside Shopping Centre), beat fellow nominees Servest Parking (The Mall of Rosebank) and Interpark (Menlyn Park Shopping Centre) to take the top spot in the Parking Management category.
The Award’s also recognise excellence in shopping centre marketing through the Footprint Awards and its three sub-categories; Bronze, Silver and Gold. Gold Footprint Awards were awarded to; Marketing Concepts for the ‘World Cup Soccer’ Promotion at Sandton City, Primedia Lifestyle for their ‘Hola Taxi’ Campaign at Bushbuck Ridge Shopping Centre and Unitel Marketing for their ‘Chocolat @Mimosa Mall’ campaign.
Silver winners include Marketing Concept’s ‘Sandton City Refurbishment’, Primedia Lifestyle’s ‘Hitched’ (Menlyn Park Shopping Centre), ‘Soccer at the Best Centre in SA’ (Menlyn Park Shopping Centre), ‘Absolute Cow (Irene Village Mall)’, ‘Let’s Brand Your Car’ (Hatfield Plaza) campaigns and Bespoke Marketing for its ‘Be You’ campaign at The Mall of Rosebank.
Other Silver Footprint winners include:
Eris Property Group for ‘Love to live, love to be there’ (Wonderpark Shopping Centre), DHMC for its ‘Celebs for Seniors’ (Kolonnade Retail Park), Duotone Marketing for ‘2010 World Cup Campaign’ (Nelson Mandela Square), Plan A’s ‘Windowland 2009’ and ‘Come Play with us’ campaigns (Cresta Shopping Centre), The Catalyst’s ‘Soccer Supporters’, ‘Made in SA’ and ‘Where Shopping is a Virtue’ campaigns at Brooklyn Mall.
Bronze winners include the likes of Eris Property Group, Hyprop Investments, Duotone Marketing, Primedia Lifestyle, Unitel Marketing and The A-Z Philisophy.
The Retail Design and Development Awards, sponsored by Nedbank Corporate Property Finance saw two category winners for Gauteng. In the category for centres under 25 000sqm, architect firm MDS Architects, developers RMS Assets and Grapnel Property Group were announced winners for their design and development of Morningside Shopping Centre. In the Store or Restaurant Design Category, Evan Wannerton took top honours for design work for Edgars Melrose Arch, owned by Edcon.
