This year marked the 7th anniversary of the awards, of which the aim is to recognise leaders and role models in various categories of business and influence. `The Best Men campaign recognises today's true leaders who have a positive impact in South Africa, men who are actively using their passion and expertise to make a difference in our country,' says Ridwaan Bawa, Men's Health editor. `High profile, low profile, regular guys, their status does not matter - we are interested only in their achievements in their field of expertise and contribution to society.'
When accepting his awards, Meiring recognised the importance of having a strong team and being in the right environment, “To me, being a visionary means having a dream, believing in that dream at all costs, and finding a formidable team to help you achieve this dream. As South Africans, we are extremely fortunate to live in a wonderful country that creates opportunities and provides an environment in which we can realize our dreams. Without the support from our Government, the 115 people that work for Optimal Energy and the endless support of my family, my dream of designing, developing and building Joule, South Africa’s first electric car - would never have become a reality.”
The selection of finalists followed a public call for nominations and direction from a panel of specialists. Men’s Health readers selected winners after a voting process. This is an extremely proud moment for Optimal Energy, recognising the incredible influence of this dynamic leader.
Men's Health Editor Ridwaan Bawa comments: "Best Men is a recognition of the finest men in South African society, men we are honouring because of their achievements and contribution to society. In challenging times, they are proof that role models still exist in our country."
