AIR TRAVEL: Mango Still the Most on Time Airline
Recent Gauteng Business News
The airline has maintained a 98%+ technical aircraft despatch reliability (its new generation aircraft being maintained by Africa’s leading maintenance organisation, SAA Technical) and a 92%+ on-time passenger arrival rate over the last 24-months. The achievement fulfils the airline’s operational strategy.
“Fundamental to low cost aviation and critical to Mango’s business case is operational efficiency; achieved through effective asset utilisation and delivering a reliable product, affordably, to the market,” says CEO Nico Bezuidenhout. From the outset, he says, the airline aimed to attract various market segments. “Making available air travel to the un-flown market while, simultaneously appealing to fiscal sensibilities of the business traveller.” He says that the airline has achieved this balance and notes a continued upward curve on business travel.
Mango Plus and Mango Flex were the airline’s first formal entry into the business market, developed to fulfil corporate travel requirements with product growth a yardstick of the growing move to low cost travel.
Bezuidenhout says that a 27% increase in said product growth was measured over the past 6 months. “Achievement of product and service parity has delivered substantial increases in demand; this, accompanied with economic pressure on bottom lines should see a continuance of the trend.”
