CAR RENTAL: Strong Leadership Ensures Growth Of Avis MiniLease

Recent Gauteng Business News

Avis’ MiniLease division, which was launched two years ago, is headed up by savvy business manager, Linda Westcott, who has taken the division from a mere idea to a profit generator for Avis. Today the division enjoys significant month on month growth.

Westcott says Avis MiniLease was introduced to fill the gap between long-term rentals and short-term leasing. “Avis MiniLease has been designed to offer some of the benefits of vehicle ownership without the trauma and constraint of purchasing a car, which is ideal for people looking to access a dedicated vehicle for a period of between three and 11 months,” she says.

Avis MiniLease differs significantly from the current monthly rental products available because it offers a higher level of specialised service and benefits to the longer term renter. Customers can select any make, colour and model of vehicle within the Avis fleet. Requests for optional extras such as tow bars, CD shuttles, Bluetooth, bicycle racks, GPS, medical kits, baby seats and phone kits can be accommodated and the vehicle will be dedicated to the customer for the entire leasing period. In some cases, specially requested vehicles will be purchased by Avis for a specific MiniLease customer.

Westcott and her team look after a large number of Avis MiniLease customers, varying from corporate businesses to international contractors working in South Africa to employees with a car allowance, repatriates requiring a short term transport solution, families needing a second vehicle, or any individual or small business looking for an interim solution before buying a vehicle.

Westcott says the success of Avis MiniLease can largely be attributed to the convenience it offers customers. “As a facility dedicated to the MiniLease customer, we provide the specialised management and administration required for every MiniLease transaction. The vehicles themselves are provided by Avis’ various operations around the country, which enables our service to be available nationally,” she says.

Avis chief executive, Wayne Duvenage, says the success of MiniLease also lies in Westcott’s 17-year history with Avis and her deep understanding of the business. “Under the able leadership of Linda, the MiniLease division continues to grow from strength to strength,” he says.

Westcott joined Avis soon after leaving school and worked as a rental sales agent at an Avis agency in Sandton. Over the years she managed several branches, in all instances with great success.
