In the first quarter of 2010, South Africa’s gold production fell by 15% to 43 927.8 kilograms when compared to the 51681.8 kilograms produced in the fourth quarter of 2009. On a year-on-year basis gold production was down by 12.4% in the first quarter of 2010.
CHAMBER MEMBER GOLD PRODUCTION
For gold mines members of the Chamber, production declined by 15.8% to 39 061.5 kilograms in the first quarter of 2010 when compared to the previous quarter. On a year-on-year basis Chamber member production fell by 10.7% in the first quarter of 2009. Gold mining companies lost an average of about 18 days of production during the quarter as the impact of the latter part of the Christmas holidays affected production.
